The Scissor Sisters nearly surrendered. A completely different album was meant to follow the hugely successful Ta-Dah (2006) but was scrapped at the last minute. Jake Shears felt lost. Old and confined. Packaged in the success of the band. He jumped on an aeroplane to Berlin. Had fun. Got into trouble. Danced. And the result of that breathing space, based on the two new songs streaming online “Fire With Fire” and “Invisible Light”, are sexy 70s, decadent Studio 54 mirror ball imprinted exhuberant joy. Never before binning a whole album has been so worth it if this is the end result. I can’t wait to get lost in Nightwork.
