I Wanna Hear Every Beat Of Your Heart

The Smiths were at The Drums. So was Boy George.  It must have been like your Hot Tub Machine catapulted you in reverse from the 80s back to the future in 2010. The music was the same, everyone was there but fatter and on the wrong side of fourty. “I Felt Stupid” by The Drums is such a perfect piece of 80s retro pop, that its actually not retro. It IS. Brilliant pop that would’ve been so at home in the ending credits of a John Hughes movie, I could swear that’s where I heard it first. (Unlikely I know, as the members of The Drums were probably still in diapers when Molly Ringwald ruled the world.)  The band, who were number 5 on the BBC Sound Of 2010 list, describe themselves as a rock’n’roll band that writes pop songs. “We only write about two feelings: one is the first day of summer when you and all of your friends are standing on the edge of a cliff watching the sun set and being overcome with all of your hopes and dreams at once. The other is when you’re walking alone in the rain and realize you will be alone forever.”
Exactly like a John Hughes movie really.
