Better Nights, Better Times, Better Days

In a chart full of Rhianna, Timbaland and Ludacris, Maxwell just sounds so adult. Like a grown up who has entered to break up a kids party. From the asian fusion chimes in the beginning to the jazz horns at the end, “Pretty Wings” plays like a smooth romantic lullaby. It’s the first single off the 2010 Grammy award winning BLACKsummer’snight. (Best R&B album. “Pretty Wings” also earned a Grammy for best R&B song). Not only are the Grammy awards well overdue after a career spanning over a decade, but they are also more impressive following Maxwell’s self inflicted hiatus of 8 years. Whilst Maxwell’s contemporaries continue to bump’n’grind he sticks to his sleek and sophisticated neo-soul, setting him apart as the soul man of the generation.
