A Million Lights Are Dancing

To me Texas (and thus Sharleen Spiteri) have always been in the category of amiable background music. Xanadu was one of the worst movies of all time (and I should know I was there, sitting in a movie theatre in 1980 willing to like it but it was just too weird with roller skating spirits or whatever they were…) however the soundtrack was fab. I’m glad Sharlene has included Xanadu, the title track, in her new album of “favorite songs from the movies” (entitled The Movie Songbook, dropping in March. Her version of Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” is also beautiful with soaring violins). Xanadu is still pop fantastic and deserves another airing.
Besides the combination of Sharlene and Xanadu is less muzak and more faubulous 80s nostalgia for us middle-agers.
